Where: University of Oregon

The 12th annual Western Regional International Health Conference will be an opportunity for a diverse group of students, activists, academics, and leaders passionate about the advancement of global health and social justice to explore the determinants and challenges in fostering physical and mental health at every stage of life.

WGS is co-sponsoring this event.

From the website:

Topics often overlooked when evaluating intergenerational health will be discussed in detail, including the connectedness of health at every stage of life, cross-cultural differences in generational health, how marginalized populations are affected and cope with health disparities throughout life, and the interdisciplinary nature of healthcare provision during the human lifespan. Through exploration of these topics and recognition of inherent challenges, the breakdown of stereotypes and misconceptions, dialogues, and innovative solutions will be fostered. These ideas and resolutions will represent a culturally reflexive understanding to multigenerational health, particularly emphasizing those based in local grassroots movements and community programs that also maintain a global eye on their effects internationally.

Through this conference we want to emphasize the importance of both maintaining health at every stage of life, as well as promoting health for the years to come. We will examine these ideals in the context of:

  • Psychosocial and Mental Health
  • Alternative Medicine
  • Advancements in Technology
  • Environmental Determinants of Health: Built and Natural
  • Sexuality and Gender
  • Political Action and International Aid

Health at every stage of life is intertwined at the biological, social, political, and ecological levels, though the realization of these relationships is often unnoticed. This conference will provide the opportunity to discuss, question, and critique these notions while new ideas are generated.
