WGSS Commencement 2020

The 2020 WGSS Commencement Ceremony will be held virtually on June 20th, 2020.

All UO students will personalize an individual recognition slide for the virtual ceremonies.

WGSS students will be given the option to also create and send us a 30-60 second video clip addressing their classmates, friends and family with the prompt: “How has my WGSS coursework changed the way I think?”. This WGSS specific video is optional and in addition to the short pre-recorded recognition slide.

Please RSVP to WGSS by completing the WGSS Commencement 2020 Information Form.

UPDATE: See below email sent to WGSS seniors on 5/15/2020 from wgs@uoregon.edu:

—————————–

Dear WGSS graduates,

This email contains important information about your commencement so please read carefully!

This year, on June 20th, 2020, UO will hold virtual commencement ceremonies so that you may view the ceremony safely at home with your classmates, family and friends.

Please RSVP here so we can make certain you are listed in the online program and that you receive any additional information.

VIRTUAL CEREMONIES

Multiple Ceremonies:
There will be two ceremonies viewable on June, 20th, 2020:
– A live university wide webcast ceremony from 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m.
– An individual pre-recorded WGSS department ceremony available at 10:30.

Student Videos/Recognition:
There are two chances for student videos:
1)      Stage Clip Student Recognition Slide/Video (required).
You are asked to create a 10 second video for the graduation slides that will be shown at the end of the WGSS pre-recorded ceremony. Link to create this was sent by commencement@uoregon.edu.  If you did not receive this email please let WGSS know by emailing us at wgs@uoregon.edu. Due to the UO Commencement by June 2nd – see their email for details.

2)      WGSS Longer 1 minute video (optional).
Each year we invite WGSS graduates who would like to do so to come to the podium and address their classmates, friends and family. We ask students to consider the prompt “How has WGSS changed the way you think?” It’s not required, but this is YOUR day! We would love it if you shared with us this separate greeting for you and your guests. To be clear, we are asking that WGSS Majors create a video in addition to their recognition slide. More details on this below. Due to the WGSS Office Tuesday, May 26th by 12 p.m.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OPTIONAL WGSS 1 minute video

What to do?
We are asking you to record yourself with a brief introduction and make a few comments about your experience as a Major in WGSS. Within your comments, please answer this prompt: “How has WGSS changed the way you think?”.

Please stay within 1 minute, so that everyone who would like to speak may do so.

The Deadline for video clips is Tuesday, May 26th by 12 p.m.

How to send your WGSS video?
Please upload your video to One Drive and share to jconnor7@uoregon.edu and jmulkins@uoregon.edu.
*All UO students have access to One Drive through the UO Website and their DuckID at office.uoregon.edu.
Full instructions are here – https://service.uoregon.edu/TDClient/2030/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=32990
If you have any problems sending the video, please email us right away and we will work with you to upload your file.

What should I wear for my video recording(s)?
Wear what you feel good in – this is your celebration. Some students may have a cap and gown and some may not. Please wear a smile and whatever you are comfortable in. What’s important is you have a moment to reflect and share your accomplishment.

Other Tips:
– Send the file as a mp4 file.
– Record yourself in landscape view so we are able to see you better on the final video.

OTHER COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

Can I watch the commencement celebrations at a later time?
Yes, we have been told this is accessible for up to one year.
The main UO ceremony will begin as a live webcast feed at 9 a.m. on June 20th and is scheduled to run until around 10 a.m. It is intended to be viewed as a shared experience but is being recorded so that you may view the commencement at a later time if you wish. The WGSS department video will be prerecorded and available for viewing at 10:30 a.m. Each department has selected to pre-record or share a live feed commencement, depending on their preference. The advantage is that if you are graduating from more than one department, you can view them each at a time that is convenient for you.

How do I access the live feed on June 20th?
You will can access the Activities and Ceremonies page on the commencement website. Individual ceremony links will be updated when they are available and released. You can share that information with family and friends so that you can all watch in unison in the safety of your own homes. See: https://commencement.uoregon.edu/activities-and-ceremonies

How will I receive my diploma?
The University will mail your diplomas to the address you have listed in DuckWeb, so make sure the address is up-to-date.

How do I get my free diploma cover?
Students are being offered a free Diploma Cover. Go to the Duck Store and have yours sent to you with free shipping! https://www.uoduckstore.com/Green-Seal-Diploma-Cover-Full-Size?quantity=1

What do I do first?
Here is a handy list that will walk you through steps to participation in this year’s virtual commencement ceremony. It has step by step directions for the all-campus graduation, important deadlines and how to make your 10-second graduation slide.https://commencement.uoregon.edu/grad-checklist

What if I’m graduating but haven’t heard anything yet?
If you have applied for graduation, but have not been contacted by the graduation team via email, please let us know right away. We will follow up and make sure you are listed to graduate. Contact us by email at wgs@uoregon.edu.

May I return next year for the Ceremony 2021?
Yes! The good news is all graduates will be invited back to participate in the 2021 live graduation commencement ceremony. This includes the WGSS department ceremony if you would like to participate in that as well.
