The topic was Dr. Saavedra’s book Pasadena Before the Roses:  Race, Identity, and Land Use in Southern California, 1771-1890, (University of Arizona, 2018), which examines and details the social and cultural history of how Spanish, Mexican, American and Indigenous groups’ competing visions of land use affected the formation of racial and cultural identity in Pasadena, California, during this period.

The podcast centers the City of Pasadena and describes itself as follows:

“An endeavor of love for our city, The Crown City Podcast is a project that highlights and tells the stories of individuals, organizations and businesses that make this place so special.

At a time when people are divided and discouraged, The Crown City Podcast is a home for civil and civic minded conversations on the good that surrounds us.

Stronger communities start with honest dialogues. Let’s begin.”
