We Celebrate Professor Lara’s newly announced tenure!

Congratulations to Associate Professor Ana Lara on her newly announced tenure. Professor Lara has recently had two books published. We celebrate her excellent research and commitment to our students!
Queer Freedom: Black Sovereignty  was published by SUNY Press in October 2020 and won the 2020 Ruth Benedict Prize for Outstanding Monography from the Association for Queer Anthropologists.

Streetwalking: LGBTQ Lives and Protest in the Dominican Republic, is published by Rutgers University Press and has received outstanding reviews.

“Ana-Maurine Lara offers us a meaningful invitation to consider the multifaceted potentials of streetwalking, and to witness how Dominican LGBTQ activists make resistencia that reorders our understanding of the queer politics of the everyday. Beautifully written and cogently argued, Streetwalking is an important contribution to queer of color critique.”
–C. Riley Snorton, author of Black on Both Sides: A Racial History of Trans Identity
